Autumn is one of the best seasons to spend time with family and friends. The crisp fall air often encourages more time spent indoors with loved ones. Making your home a cosy and inviting environment for the season is surely a highlight!
With endless decorating possibilities available, choosing a theme or decor scheme can be challenging. This year we just can't get enough of the warm, gentle and sophisticated palette of the Muted Colours Trend! What exactly does this look like?
Try to incorporate shades such as those displayed in this 18th century tray of Jasper pastels:
Warm, pale shades of grey
Blush and dusky pinks
Dusty pale greens
Light, gentle shades of camel
Smoky shades of peach
Light, earthy shades of brown
Toned down shades of lavender and purple
This year to fully embrace the muted fall colour palette, why not try your hand at creating non-traditional pumpkins?
- Using chalk paint in various shades of blue, white and tan you can create chic decor that would look great as a centerpiece or mantel display.
- Incorporate a few pumpkins painted with gold geometric patterns as stand out pieces.
- Another trend this autumn is the incorporation of velvet elements. Rather than switch out your entire furniture range, why not try making some adorable velvet pumpkins?
Why not make a standout centerpiece for your table this year by combining the muted fall colour palette with accents of gold and trending plants such as succulents?
This year we saw an influx of geometric patterns in both decor and design. Mixed with this year's trending shades and materials, the combinations are just perfect!
It's that time of year where families begin to spend more time indoors as the temperatures drop outside. With the holidays approaching this is the perfect opportunity to spruce up your interior to be more cosy and festive!
Cosy Autumn Decor
One of my favourite things about autumn has to be the beautiful foliage colours. There is something quite soothing about the natural gradients of red, orange, yellow and green swaying in the crisp fall air.
To replicate this autumnal feel within the home, try incorporating some of these tips courtesy of Elle Decor:
In addition to incorporating fresh fall colours into your home, the fabric, accessories and decor you choose can help enhance the autumn ambiance of a space. Here are several of our favourite fall finds this season:
Fabrics and Textures: Velvets, Knits and Woven Fabrics
Natural Wooden Elements
Trendy Accents: Antlers, Brass and Copper
In addition to creating a cosy warm home, for some of us the season of autumn is also synonymous with travel. There is perhaps no better time to visit Europe than in the fall months. Good weather, fewer tourists and queues and amazing colourful foliage makes it the perfect time to plan a trip! If you are looking for a wee bit of travel inspiration, here are some of the best fall travel destinations across Europe, courtesy of Solo Sophie.
Warm yourself up from the brisk autumn air with one of these delightful hot cocoa creations. Featuring everything from the traditional marshmallows and cream to innovative combinations of raspberry powder and wine, these are some of the best places in the UK to get your chocolate fix!

A big trend this year is 'naked' wedding cakes that are void of thick icings and frills but none the less stunning and delicious!
This year we are seeing a lot of navy, burgundy and gold mixed with accents of gold, peach and blush pink. These colours compliment each other nicely and truly stand out as autumn inspired!
The time for pumpkins and rustic leaves is here! Take advantage of this by incorporating some of the awesome decor ideas into your ceremony or reception.

Now that autumn is officially here, it's time to switch gears from tropical warm summer days to crisp and cosy fall! This week we look at the seasonal home decor and colour trends of autumn 2017.
A Pantone Interior
Combine colours of blush pink, terra cotta, deep greens, cream and matt black with rich natural materials and accents of brass and woven knits for a perfect on-trend fall interior!
And don't forget those accessories! A big trend this year is farmhouse style which incorporates a lot of natural materials such as leather and wood. The goal is to create a cosy space that centers around simplicity.
We also can't get enough of these cosy knitted coffee and tea sleeves! Even your fall beverages can be on trend!
Last week we explored drying fruits like apples and oranges to make festive fall garlands and centerpieces. Extending that trend a bit, this week we try our hand at creating autumn inspired candles! Using cinnamon sticks, vanilla pods, coffee beans, and branches you can create stunning fall decor that smells amazing!
Handmade with Love
Adding something handmade to your home, gives it a unique and special quality. We just love our always popular Mini Family Tree that is designed and created by hand in our Edinburgh studio! The frame which comes in matt white and matt black is sure to compliment your autumn decor.

This week we officially welcome Autumn!
It's hard to say what we like best about autumn; the leaves changing colour, the smell of fresh fall air, fresh baked pumpkin spiced desserts or those delightful cinnamon and nutty lattes. This truly is a magical season and we are welcoming it with open arms!
So What is the Autumn Equinox
The Autumn (September) equinox occurs the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator – the imaginary line in the sky above Earth’s Equator – from north to south. This occurrence causes the day and night to be almost equal in duration.
Autumn Around the World
While we might be more familiar with fairs and festivals during the official start of autumn, around the world the autumn equinox coincides with many cultural events, religious observances and customs.
In Pagan culture this time is known as 'Mabon.' Japan it's 'Ohigan.' China and Vietnam celebrate the Moon Festival and Catholics partake in Michaelmas, the feast of the Archangel Michael. Read more about equinox customs.
However you choose to celebrate, we hope your autumn is a season of harvest and reflection and filled with fun festivities, like my favourite popular tradition of attempting to balance and egg on it's end!
Fabulous Fall Feasting!
This autumn please your palette with some tasty fall treats! Here are a few of our favourite finds that we are just dying to try out!
